Energy Savers Week: Supporting Families, Protecting Our Planet

At Save the Family, we understand that every little action counts when it comes to creating a brighter future for our families and our planet. This Energy Savers Week, we’re shining a spotlight on simple, practical ways to cut down on energy use—and in turn, save money while helping the environment.

Why Energy Efficiency Matters

For families facing homelessness, every penny matters. Rising energy costs can place a huge strain on household budgets, making it harder for families to rebuild their lives. But energy efficiency isn’t just about reducing bills; it’s also about creating a more sustainable future for the next generation. By making small changes, we can all contribute to reducing carbon footprints and tackling climate change.

Simple Tips to Save Energy

Here are some easy-to-implement ideas that families can start using today:

  1. Switch to LED Bulbs: Replacing old lightbulbs with energy-efficient LEDs can save up to 80% on lighting costs. This is something that is in progress across our whole site at Save the Family!
  2. Unplug Devices: Many gadgets consume energy even when not in use. Encourage unplugging chargers, TVs, and other electronics.
  3. Use a Draught Excluder: Keeping out the cold with draught excluders can reduce heating costs and keep homes cosy.
  4. Wash Smarter: Washing clothes at 30 degrees and air drying them instead of using a tumble dryer can make a noticeable difference.
  5. Turn Down the Temperature: Lowering your thermostat by just one degree can cut heating bills by around 10%.

How We’re Helping

Save the Family provides tailored support to help families thrive in their new homes. This includes sharing energy-saving tips, offering budgeting advice, and ensuring families have access to essential resources like draught excluders and low-energy appliances.

We also collaborate with local businesses and organisations to provide workshops on sustainability and energy efficiency. These initiatives empower families to take control of their energy usage while building essential life skills.

A Collective Effort

Energy Savers Week is a great reminder that we’re all in this together. By making small changes in our homes, workplaces, and communities, we can create a ripple effect of positive impact. Together, we can help families save money, reduce stress, and protect the environment for generations to come.
